TelecityGroup Ireland has announced the commencement of build on its new state-of-the-art data center in Blanchardstown, Dublin. The new center will open in the summer of 2015 and will provide ten new roles in engineering.
TelecityGroup currently employs sixty people in Dublin across three world-class data center facilities. TelecityGroup's data centers are attractive to US companies that are expanding into Europe and seeking a European base for their data. The fourth data center will host international, national and metropolitan Tier 1 and 2 carriers, ISPs and content distribution networks, which provide access to transatlantic connectivity.
Maurice Mortell, VP of Emerging Markets & managing director of TelecityGroup Ireland, said, "We have seen a significant increase in demand from new and existing customers for high capacity, diverse and low latency connectivity - especially to the United States. It was this high demand for TelecityGroup data centers in Ireland that drove our major expansion in Ireland in 2011. Since this expansion just over three years ago, our business in Ireland has grown considerably. This new Dub 4 data center is further testament of this success.
"Our center will offer a high number of connectivity providers and will employ a large engineering team on a 24/7 basis to monitor and maintain the data center and provide a continuous high level of service.
"We are confident that the resilient power and diverse connectivity options provided by our four data centers plays a key role in attracting global enterprise to Ireland, bringing with it more jobs and investment. The first phase of our fourth data center in Ireland will be opened in summer 2015 and this will give us plenty of scope to meet demand for the foreseeable future."
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD said, "This is a very welcome announcement for Dublin. Big data is a sector we have specifically targeted as part of the Government's Action Plan for Jobs, and in recent years we have seen significant growth in this area. Today's announcement that TelecityGroup is establishing another data center in Ireland is a very welcome move, and I wish Maurice and the team every success with this investment."
Northwest Business Park was selected as the ideal location for the new Dub 4 data center due to its extensive connectivity options, its secure location and its proximity to TelecityGroup's existing Dub 3 data center, enabling a 'campus extension' from one facility to another. This helps to support the facility's operational resilience and ensures customer demand for expansion is met.
Strong demand resulting from international companies that have expanded into Ireland and a rapidly improving local economy are both key driving forces for the development of the new data center. Companies in digital media, online retail, online gaming, payments and the financial sectors will become new customers in the new data center.
