There is a lot happening atMission Critical these days. First, we debuted a new column, “Target: TCO” in ourJanuary/Februaryissue. “Target: TCO” is written by Paul Schlattman, vice president of the Mission Critical Facilities Group for Environmental Systems Design, Inc. in Chicago. Over the course of the year, Paul be addressing the six steps required to getting to a total cost of ownership (TCO) when building or selecting a new data center. Part one ran in January/February. See page 22 for part two, and tune in for the rest of steps as the year progresses.

Our second new column debuts this month. “Site Selection” is written by Shawn Conaway, Mission Critical’s new associate editor. Shawn holds MBA and undergraduate degrees in geophysics and most recently managed a Tier III data center and 35 remote server rooms. An avid writer, he has written for C-NET, Technical Support Magazine, Time Out Chicago, and Certification Magazine, and created Virtualize! Magazine, which focused on virtualization and Tech Toys magazine, which featured consumer electronics. He will soon be writing for BNP Media’s upcoming cloud computing magazine, which is due to debut in the fall.

And last but not least, James Siegel will join the staff in April as Mission Critical’s new managing editor. James comes to Mission Critical from its sister publication, SNIPS Magazine, where he served as associate editor. James will help facilitate our production process and will help keep our website up to date.
