Skanska USA Inc’s building business unit, through its Skanska Canadian Construction Services division, has been awarded a $55 million design build contract for the new Tier III Super Internet Data Center (SIDC) for TELUS in Rimouski, Quebec. The Rimouski SIDC facilities will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold certification by the Canadian Green Building Council (CGBC).

Skanska will include the full value of the contract in its third quarter order bookings. This is Skanska’s third data center in Canada, with two projects already under way for a confidential client in Southern Ontario.

The new SIDC integrates a flexible modular approach that will align TELUS’ capital investment with its load growth profile over the next two decades. The innovative modular design will enable TELUS to expand capacity as needed while using the most advanced and efficient technologies available. Additionally, the customized, inherently redundant design guarantees an unprecedented industry leading Power Usage Effectiveness of 1.15. The first phase of the multi-phase build-out is scheduled to be completed in 2012
