Large-scale organizations, such as Cisco Systems Inc., Dell Technologies Inc., IBM Corp., ATOS SE, and NEC Corp., among others, are involved in the creation of advanced technologies for data center servers to turn them into smart machines.

The 900,000-square-foot data center aims to serve as a model of energy efficiency and will be supported by renewable energy from new solar energy plants. The project will also aim for LEED Gold certification and receive credits for water restoration efforts.
Although the recent rebranding of Facebook to Meta has catalyzed a rise in openings, the first metaverse posting was in April 2019, showing the concept has existed for several years as a niche rather than a mainstream term.
