Arc Flash Mitigation Techniques: The Ultimate in Data Center Protection
The data center industry is growing increasingly aware of arc flash hazards, the dangerous conditions associated with the possible release of energy caused by an electric arc. Given the high levels of potential energy through dense power infrastructures, data centers present prime conditions for arc flash. But while much attention has focused on the need for system analysis and the selection of appropriate PPE, the application of product or design solutions has received relatively little attention. The use of engineering controls to help mitigate arc flash hazards can be a very effective way to enhance safety in data centers.
Attendees will learn:
- NFPA 70E requirements for arc flash safety
- Strategies for mitigating arc flash hazards in data centers
- Product and design choices impacting arc flash hazard levels, including optical relaying, arc resistant switchgear, selective coordination, system grounding, and remote operations
- The application of solutions to existing data centers (retrofits) versus new facilities
