Usage Scenarios for the Edge Computing Mode
The requirements for data centers are constantly being redefined in the course of the digital transformation. Latency-intensive, sensor-based applications and bandwidth-heavy content such as video streaming, VR and AR require the continuous availability of a trouble-free connection of the relevant end devices to the data center. Given the increasing importance of data for digital business models, edge computing has already become indispensable in many places. Conventional infrastructures offer no substitute for edge computing. Regardless of the extent to which the existing data center space should be sufficient to cope with the volumes of data generated in the short and long term, the new application scenarios - whether in the field of IoT, telecommunications, building management or others - cannot be covered by higher computing capacities alone due to the physical distance of the data center from the respective data source.
