So You Say It’s Modular: What That Means and How To Deploy It
Modular power systems are comprised of multiple individual power backup systems, working as a unit in a single UPS. They ship and install like single UPSs, but functionally they operate as redundant parallel systems. This arrangement provides the ultimate in flexibility as data center requirements change and allows the user to create a pay-as-you-grow architecture, instead of over-provisioning their critical power on day one. Other benefits include lower total CAPEX due to more precise initial expenditure and reduced OPEX due to better power efficiency and lower maintenance costs.
Learning objectives:
- Recognize and quantify ($) the benefits of scalability and redundancy
- Determine how to plan for a flexible installation that can grow if or when needed
- Choose inherent redundancy over more expensive traditional architectures
- See the differences and similarities between large and small modular power products
