A new 14 MW expansion is now under construction at Green Mountain's LON1-East campus in Romford, United Kingdom. The site is ideally located near the main financial districts of London and the key Market Exchanges. The new data center expansion will be built over two phases (7 MW each phase), inside the existing building and offers over 5,500 sqm of white space. The first phase is set to be completed by Q1 2025. The campus has the potential to be expanded with an additional 16 MW.

Options to scale

Norwegian data center company, Green Mountain, officially incorporated Infinity Data Centers into their portfolio in January 2023 and renamed the site LON1-East. The site has subsequently been rebranded and is now ready for a major expansion. Three new data halls supporting 7 MW of IT-load will be built inside an existing building at the site with a further three halls (7 MW) following thereafter. For clients needing scale, the site can offer an additional 16 MW build-to-suit opportunity on an adjacent plot of land with power and planning permission already secured.

Ideal location

This is a key London location, situated less than 10 miles from the major financial centers of the City of London and Docklands. It is also equidistant between the London and New York Stock Exchange data centers. Situated in east London our site provides an opportunity to build an availability zone with other data centers in Dagenham and Harlow. The site has connections to major fiber routes with 10+ independent fiber providers available who can provide a full array of low-latency connectivity solutions.

The location has important transport links and is close to the Elizabeth line with direct connections to the City of London, the Docklands and London’s Heathrow Airport.

Sustainability is key

Green Mountain is known for its focus on sustainability. The new build-out is the next step on our journey towards carbon neutrality. The site is supported by certified renewable power and will have a target annualized PUE of 1.2. The backup power generators will use HVO fuel instead of diesel, reducing the CO2 emissions by up to 90%.

A unique opportunity

“We are delighted to begin expanding the existing operational site to bring additional capacity to market. The unique location coupled with a strong team experienced in both building and operating highly secure data centers with 100% availability, makes this a fantastic site for customers looking for low latency connectivity, and easy access to London and with an opportunity to expand to 30 MW including build to suit options in a single campus.” said Simon Blackburn, Managing Director, UK.

“This is a true milestone in our international expansion. London is an extremely important data center hub and a must-have location for many international companies. Our aim is to gradually expand our footprint in several international markets, and London is an ideal location to continue executing this strategy.” added Svein Atle Hagaseth, CEO of Green Mountain.
