KOHLER, Wis. — Kohler Power Systems launched a web-based version to replace its highly popular Power Solutions Center desktop app used for generator sizing and specification for KOHLER North American industrial products. Utilizing the free Power Solutions Center (PSC) software gives users direct access to technical data on KohlerPower.com, including product guide specifications, building information modeling (BIM) files, and product drawings and genset performance information.

The new web-based Power Solutions Center adds features and enhancements to the user’s experience to create a more efficient and in-field solution for appropriate sizing and specification of generators. New features include automatic software updates when new products are released, new variable-frequency drive (VFD) with ramp motor starting option, and fire pump bypass selection that can be turned on and off to quickly see the generator sizing impact of the National Electric Code requirement for fire pumps. This version features intuitive drag-and-drop load management, an automatic one-line diagram and steps report, prepopulated engineering tools, and direct connection to Kohler partners for hassle-free quotes and assistance, among other features.

“Sizing the generator correctly is an important early step to ensure that site requirements will be met when the generator is installed and costly on-site changes can be avoided,” said Todd Matte, principal engineer of technical marketing for Kohler Power Systems. “In addition to sizing and installation tools, Power Solutions Center guides the designer from creation of the single line to installation and commissioning by enabling easy connection with Kohler channel partners for project guidance, quotation, and final commissioning.”

In the white paper, “Design Considerations For Sizing Industrial Standby Generators, Matte further states that Power Solutions Center software runs calculations to ensure the right generator is recommended for the site conditions. It allows for the consideration of future electrical load or expansions that may be planned. The white paper explores the key factors to understand when sizing an industrial standby generator, emphasizing that the software requires detailed input by project designers to recommend the appropriate generator. Kohler’s Power Solutions Center tool provides product offerings positioned above and below the ideal selection to allow designers to compare differences in performance.
