There is a growing move toward more normalized data center equipment and designs, especially among cloud and colocation providers and extending from core to edge. Different types of data centers handle standardization differently, but the drivers are the same: faster deployment and more predictable quality and pricing. This paper looks at the most popular emerging colocation strategy – building integrated racks offsite and shipping fully assembled, integrated racks to the data center – and explains the benefits of such an approach.
