It seems just like yesterday when Steve Carlini of Schneider Electric was telling me about the company’s products for edge data centers, a term I hadn’t heard of until then. Since then, edge data centers, along with the products and services designed specifically for these installations, have exploded. Indeed, according to Global Market Insights, the edge data center market is to cross USD $13 billion by 2024 thanks to increasing demand for edge and cloud computing technology. Edge data centers by their very nature are situated close to where the action is; which means where all the data is generated. The edge data center, “offers complete control over the data processing and storage at the edge of a network rather than establishing it in a centralized warehouse,” said Global Market Insights. Judging from everyone who has their face in their phone, edge data centers are definitely a growth industry.
