TierPoint To Build Second Dallas Data Center
Metro area among the fastest growing data center markets in the country.
TierPoint LLC has announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art data center in the Dallas metropolitan area.
Partnering with Compass Data Centers, TierPoint’s ultimate plan calls for approximately 90,000 sq ft of building space in Allen, TX, with the initial phase including an investment of over $20 million and 16,000 sq ft of raised floor. The new carrier-neutral facility will also include infrastructure support and office space and is expected to be operational by spring 2017.
“The location we selected in Allen is beneficial for several reasons,” said Chris Parsons, TierPoint’s regional vice president for the area. “It offers an ideal disaster recovery option for our current customers and provides expansion capabilities for them while remaining local. Allen is a high-tech community in the rapidly growing US 75/State Highway 121 corridor, offering easy access from all points in North Texas and close proximity to the IT workforce, rapidly expanding population, and business growth in the area.”
Allen Mayor Stephen Terrell said, “We’re proud to support the new TierPoint facility in our city. This is yet another example of how the proactive efforts of the Allen Economic Development Corporation attract new and beneficial business investment to our community.”
TierPoint’s roots can be traced to Dallas and the company’s first data center acquisition, Colo4Dallas, in 2010. The original 68,000 sq ft facility, built in 2000, was one of the first in the area to provide true 2N power, an important factor in preventing outages and giving the company a strong entry into the market. Since then, TierPoint has added 38 more data centers. The new Dallas-area facility will bring the total to 40 nationwide.
“Dallas is one of the fastest growing markets in the U.S., offering a technology hub with abundant power, connectivity, and a business-friendly climate,” said Jerry Kent, TierPoint’s Chairman and CEO. “Our decision to invest in this second facility in the area is based on strong, regional demand for hybrid IT services and is a testament to the unique blend of world-class products, top-rate professionals, and superior customer service for which TierPoint is increasingly known.”
