Kohler Power Systems has completed its first industrial standby diesel generator line powered by a Kohler engine. The fully-integrated Kohler product line utilizes Kohler’s Direct Injection (KDI) diesel engines and includes both Tier 3 and Tier 4 Final models ranging from 15 kW to 60 kW.
Ideal for the telecom industry, small businesses, office buildings, banks, medical institutions, as well as police and fire stations, there are nine models available within the complete industrial diesel generator range.

“The six Tier 3 models in this line are designed as emergency generators, while the three Tier 4 Final models can be utilized for a wide variety of non-emergency applications,” said Beth Splittgerber, product manager for Kohler Power Systems. “The Kohler KDI diesel engines utilized in the Tier 4 models integrate an advanced design that delivers clean combustion, optimal fuel consumption and enhanced power without the use of diesel particulate filters or SCR systems.”

The Tier 4 Final diesel engines achieve EPA and CARB compliance without a diesel particulate filter (DPF) thanks to a number of innovative features, including Kohler’s direct injection system, cooled exhaust gas recirculation and diesel oxygenated catalyst. A high-pressure common rail system is also integrated to deliver better atomization of fuel, improved fuel consumption and a reduction in emission particulates.

Dependable power

This new industrial diesel line provides end users with a fully integrated Kohler power generation system and accessories, which helps to simplify maintenance. Plus, the entire line features single-side service, where all points of entry for normal maintenance are located on one side of the generator.

“This provides the advantage of being able to install the genset into a smaller footprint, which allows users to save space — and money — by not having to leave extra room near the generator for maintenance,” Splittgerber said.

In addition, each model in this Kohler industrial diesel generator range includes a number of features to deliver straightforward operation and dependable performance in the field, including:

  • Kohler designed and built alternators
  • Kohler designed and built controllers for guaranteed system integration and remote communication
  • One-source responsibility for the generating system and accessories
  • The generator set and its components are prototype-tested, factory-built and production-tested
  • The 60 Hz generator set offers a UL 2200 listing
  • The generator set accepts rated load in one step
  • The 60 Hz generator set meets NFPA 110, Level 1, when equipped with the necessary accessories and installed per NFPA standards
  • The brushless, rotating-field alternator has broad range reconnectability
  • Sustained short-circuit current enabling downstream circuit breakers to trip without collapsing the alternator field
  • Superior voltage waveform from a two-thirds pitch stator and skewed rotor
  • Larger fuel tank options available (72 hours and 96 hour tanks)
  • Sound enclosures with superior noise reduction and stainless steel hardware
  • Integral vibration isolation eliminates the need for under-unit vibration spring isolators

“We designed and engineered these generators to offer durability and longevity in tough applications,” said Splittgerber. “The models in this range are easy to maintain, offer standby, prime and continuous ratings and have a multitude of options for all applications.”
