Flexenclosure has received a multi-million dollar order from Tigo Paraguay for a data centre in the capital Asunción.

Millicom – branded Tigo across Latin America and Africa — has placed a multi-million dollar order for a complete turnkey data centre with Flexenclosure, a Sweden-based designer and manufacturer of eCentre prefabricated data centre buildings and intelligent eSite hybrid power management systems for the ICT industry.

Flexenclosure’s eCentre data centre will be built in Paraguay’s capital Asunción during Q1 2016 and will be the first professional colocation facility in the country. eCentre is a custom-designed, prefabricated data centre building that is fast to deploy, energy efficient and easy to expand.

Uptime Institute has awarded Tier III design certification for this facility — a significant proof point of the high standards of Flexenclosure’s eCentre.  This is the first Uptime Institute certified data centre in Paraguay and it demonstrates Tigo’s commitment to bringing the latest technology to the country and to delivering world-class services to its corporate clients.

This is a full turnkey multi-phase project.  It will be a hybrid construction, including a traditional brick and mortar office building combined with the prefabricated modular eCentre data centre. eCentre construction has been completed at Flexenclosure’s factory in Vara, Sweden, and the modules are currently being transported to Paraguay where deployment will be completed in conjunction with Flexenclosure’s local civil works partners.

“We are delighted to have won this order and to extend our relationship with Millicom,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. “This project marks a series of firsts for Flexenclosure – our first Tier III certified facility; our first hybrid facility; and our first data centre deployment in Latin America — and we’re looking forward to further expanding our footprint beyond our traditional markets in Africa and Asia.”

Expanding colocation business

The new data centre will become the central primary site of Tigo’s network in Paraguay, providing a world-class platform from which Tigo will deliver an expanded business services portfolio to its corporate clients, including new colocation, cloud and other customer services.  This world-class facility will strongly position Tigo Paraguay as the partner of choice for enterprises looking for a reliable primary IT production site or back-up disaster recovery site.

Tigo Paraguay’s new eCentre will have an initial capacity of 110 racks, which will more than double to 260 racks at full capacity.

“We see significant opportunities to drive the development of the colocation and cloud services market in Paraguay and need a high quality data centre facility that we can easily and efficiently expand as our business grows,” said Juan Emilio Roa, Tigo Paraguay Business Director.

“We chose our partner Flexenclosure, who has the proven track record in deploying these technical facilities and delivering the first UPTIME TIER 3 Certified Data Centre using a mix of Modular/Concrete built.  The production quality, guaranteed delivery time and product flexibility were all important factors in our decision and we’re confident that this data centre will serve the needs of our growing corporate clients.”
