Eaton has announced the integration of the DeviceNet and CANopen communication cards into the PowerXL Series DG1 adjustable frequency drive. Designed for global commercial, industrial and original equipment manufacturer (OEM), conveyors, material handling, and pumping customers the Eaton engineered drive with new versatile communication components is designed to help reduce energy consumption compared to traditional control methods, improve safety and support reliable operations.
“The PowerXL Series DG1 drives were engineered to be robust, powerful devices for industrial applications to increase reliability,” said Matt Callahan, product manager, Eaton. “Now, by integrating the DeviceNet and CANopen communication cards the series also offer versatile communication, helping more customers power their businesses efficiently and safely.”
The DeviceNet and CANopen communication cards are being incorporated into the PowerXL DG1 drives line; a line that that integrates a patented energy control algorithm, extensive onboard industrial communication protocols and built-in harmonic reduction to help customers reduce the cost of using a variable frequency drive.
These cards allow the DG1 drives to integrate into control systems using DeviceNet and CANopen. They will allow for the drive to communicate with the other components running in the system, such as a PLC or other drives. Ultimately, the communication cards provide the drives the ability to process information and diagnostics, permitting customers to power their businesses more efficiently and safely.
Applications that already incorporate adjustable frequency drives may realize additional energy and emissions savings of up to 10% by switching to the PowerXL DG1 drive. With Eaton’s patented Active Energy Control algorithm, the new drives are programmed to dynamically adjust its operating point to minimize energy consumption. The modular design utilizing the latest generation of semiconductor technology is designed to provide greater reliability and reduced maintenance time and costs.
An enhanced graphical display and communication capabilities are embedded in the PowerXL DG1 drive. This provides customers detailed system data to simplify installation, commissioning and maintenance.
The PowerXL DG1 drives are engineered for safety, including standard Safe Torque Off (STO) functionality. The drives are also Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) compliant and meet standards from Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Canadian Underwriters Laboratories (cUL), Conformité Européenne (CE), and Australia and New Zealand’s C-Tick.
