NaviSite, Inc. has announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art enterprise-class data center located in Santa Clara, CA. The new data center will enable NaviSite to meet growing demands for its enterprise-class cloud and managed services from existing and new customers. This facility, which is owned by data center solution provider Digital Realty, will join NaviSite’s fabric of nine existing data centers across the U.S. and U.K., all of which are designed to provide a resilient, secure, high-performance environment for business applications and mission critical data.
“NaviSite has maintained a strong presence on the West Coast for more than a decade with our San Jose data center. The Silicon Valley area is a hot-bed for innovation and the development of the new Santa Clara facility is aimed at enabling the growing demand for our portfolio of cloud-enabled enterprise hosting solutions,” said Sumeet Sabharwal, general manager, NaviSite. “In addition, the data center will provide dedicated access to TWC’s state-of-the-art network backbone, enabling our customers with a comprehensive portfolio of both cloud and network services.”
The new data center will support NaviSite’s full portfolio of services across colocation, cloud-enabled managed hosting, and application management, and also host NaviSite’s next generation cloud platform. The 3.6 MW facility is structured into three secure, standalone data halls, each designed to run independently and equipped with its own dedicated power and cooling, and multiple levels of redundancy across all the critical infrastructure components, including power and cooling.
The site utilizes custom-engineered highly efficient airside economization and cooling, reducing environmental impact while providing maximum cooling efficiency. All systems for each data hall are contained in separate rooms dedicated to the hall they serve. Further, new cabinet systems, power distribution units, and cage works have been developed to lower costs and improve operational efficiency and maximize capacity. The ADA-compliant facility also features new structural and seismic upgrades including a new roof, and is located outside the 100-yr flood area.
NaviSite’s recent cloud computing and infrastructure survey reaffirmed that security continues to be a top concern as more enterprises look to migrate their IT workloads to a cloud-based infrastructure. To meet these concerns, NaviSite employs an extensive array of multi-tiered physical and logical security best practices across all its data centers to ensure its customers’ data and virtual environments are safeguarded, including a centralized global security operations center to monitor all the data centers. NaviSite’s Santa Clara facility is designed to incorporate all these best practices, including dual authentication access controls, biometric readers, video surveillance, and a comprehensive suite of logical security services.
“The Santa Clara facility incorporates the latest data center technology for efficient operations,” said Digital Realty sales director Chris Coleman. “We were delighted to work with NaviSite on this project, which is their third data center site with us. We worked closely to ensure the Santa Clara site meets their strict operational, design, and security standards. The facility undergoes a stringent SOC2 audit on a yearly basis to ensure processes and procedures meet Digital Realty and industry standards.”
In addition, NaviSite and Digital Realty have also formalized a joint sales alliance, thereby enabling Digital Realty customers to benefit from NaviSite’s suite of cloud services located in Digital Realty facilities, as well as equipping NaviSite with a world class Data Center partner for its future needs.
