Cologix Acquires Colo5
Acquisition combines market’s leading enterprise data centers with network neutral interconnect site
Cologix™ has announced it has closed a transaction to acquire Colo5, a colocation and disaster recovery provider with over 225K gross SQF across two enterprise-grade hurricane resistant facilities in Jacksonville and Lakeland, FL. This is the ninth acquisition for Cologix, adding scale to its rapidly growing network neutral North American data center platform. More than 100 customers, ranging from local enterprises to Fortune 500 brands across finance, retail, media and system integrator sectors trust their mission critical IT deployments to Colo5.
The acquisition solidifies Cologix’s leading position in Jacksonville with ownership of land and 125K SQF of data center and disaster recovery space in a wholly-owned, Class 5 hurricane rated building. The combination of Colo5 and Cologix creates a tie between the largest collections of enterprise network buyers and network service providers in the region. Jacksonville is a vibrant local economy, which is gaining importance globally with the multiple sub-sea cables landing there directly from Central and South America. In addition, Cologix can now offer 100K SQF of data center and disaster recovery space in Lakeland, which is centrally located between Tampa and Orlando at an elevation of 197 ft. (nearly 20 stories) above sea level. Lakeland's elevation and proximity to major market centers make it a natural location for primary or secondary IT sites for enterprises in Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Colo5’s success in Lakeland and available capacity accelerates Cologix’s plans to expand in Florida by 18 months.
“Colo5 has built a highly robust and credible set of data center operations, validated by its impressive list of growing customers,” says Grant van Rooyen, president and chief executive officer, Cologix. “Part of what makes this combination so attractive, is the fact that the Colo5 executive team is joining the Cologix team to help steward our continued growth and investment in Florida. Together with Doug Recker and his team, we look forward to presenting the respective benefits of this combination to our combined customers.”
“Joining the Cologix platform provides our customers key benefits that we could not have delivered as a standalone company,” explains Doug Recker, chief executive officer, Colo5. “Customers will gain three key advantages: 1) unique access to the market-leading carrier density at Cologix’s Meet-Me-Room in Jacksonville’s primary carrier hotel, 2) certainty of accelerated capital investment and 3) seamless access to a platform of state-of-the-art data centers throughout North America. The Colo5 team is excited about joining Cologix to create a new chapter of growth supporting the business community in Central and North Florida.”
Cologix’s experience in each of its markets reinforces the importance of a robust and connected data center platform to local and regional economic development. With this acquisition, Cologix supports over 850 customers across its North American data center platform, which now spans 8 markets and 20 data centers. Cologix now operates network neutral data centers in Columbus, Dallas, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Minneapolis, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
