Worldwide data centre industry representative body The Data Centre Alliance is running a series of free-to-attend workshops in Warsaw as part of the EU commission funded PEDCA (Pan-European Data Centre Alliance) Project.

The workshops are designed to widen participation in the project and beneficial industry collaborations in the fast growing region of Poland and its surrounding countries.

The PEDCA team from the UK, Netherlands and Germany will be holding a series of workshops on 9th September 2014 at the Radisson BLU Sobieski Hotel in Warsaw, Poland.

The workshops, which run between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on September 9, are:

  • Workshop 1 - "Who needs a voice and who needs to listen" chaired by DCA co-founder Steve Hone and Green IT Amsterdam Public Affairs & Innovation Program Manager, Jaak Vlasveld.
    Delegates will discover if the region can benefit from increased international awareness, a bigger voice on standards and best practice development and organised representation at national and regional Governments. Members of the workshop will learn the rationale and drivers behind the creation of the DCA in recent years and examine the possible opportunities and benefits of collaboration and a coordinated industry message in the region.
  • Workshop 2 - "How can the region leverage from PEDCA?" chaired by DCA Executive Director Simon Campbell-Whyte and UEL's Dr Rabih Bashroush
    Now that PEDCA has started and will find a way to continue its work, offering a data centre knowledge platform to Europe and this growing industry. How will the region, and in specific Poland be able to profit from PEDCA?
  • Workshop 3 - "How do we waste efficiently?" chaired by Esther van Bergen of GreenIT and Dr Jon Summers of University of Leeds.
    Delegates in this workshop will learn if the region can lead the world on environmentally sound data centres. The workshop will examine if there are local opportunities for the reuse of waste of heat, and will look at what can be done to improve reduction of waste? The delegates will discuss if there special circumstances or ways Poland and its surrounding regions may take a leap forward and find ways of competitive advantage in data centres?
  • Workshop 4 - "Special PEDCA Focus Panels" led by Dr Jon Summers and Michael Walker of AIMES plus Ineke Vlot of SMK.
    Your opportunity to shape the future of the PEDCA project and the industry - 40 minutess of education on the projects findings followed by break out sessions to discuss the problems and the ways to address them.: Focussed on creating innovation through training and skills, delegates will get a special briefing on the €1.7M European Commission funded PEDCA Project’s findings so far and how Poland and the surrounding region can take advantage by recognising the future roadmap of the EU Data Centre Market and realise its opportunities..
  • Workshop 5 - "How can the region can benefit from R&D?" Chaired by Dr Alexandru Iosup of TU Delft and Dr Rabih Bashroush of UEL
    Delegates will learn about the PEDCA project’s R&D findings and find out about future data centre research opportunities. The delegates can discuss how the region can become a part of the future data centre industry roadmap and discuss how to benefit from R&D funding opportunities PEDCA has highlighted.
