Schneider Electric has announced a new project with Internet infrastructure provider and long-time customer, Internap, to equip its new hybrid data center in New Jersey with a diverse array of solutions to optimize operational efficiency and reduce costs. Internap has commissioned Schneider Electric’s Data Center Service Provider Team to deploy Symmetra® Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) modules, Square D® Switchgear for protecting and controlling electrical currents, and Schneider Electric’s Building Management System (BMS) offering for reliable and independent precision control of HVAC systems. The project represents a holistic data center solution to address key market needs.

Internap, which controls 12 data centers in the United States and 16 worldwide, commissioned a new facility in Secaucus, NJ, in 2013 to add much-needed space to the company’s metro New York footprint. Over time, the facility will encompass approximately 55,000 sq ft of net sellable space and tall clear heights, as well as high-density power capabilities and in-ground high-speed fiber. Internap offers its full suite of Internet infrastructure services from this facility, including colocation, hosting, public cloud and bare-metal cloud. To aid in carrying out its vision of a state-of-the-art data center, Internap is leveraging Schneider Electric’s capabilities to provide comprehensive data center efficiency solutions that scale to fit individual needs.

“Modular, scalable design is at the core of our data center build outs,” says Randy Ortiz, vice president, Data Center Design and Engineering, Internap. “With our New York facilities nearing full capacity, we needed to accelerate our growth plans while working with a services provider that meets our demands for operational efficiency and cost savings across several product solutions. Schneider Electric is a recognized leader in energy management and data center solutions with a lengthy track record for meeting cloud, hosting and colocation needs and design requirements. We are pleased with the efficiency, reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of its solutions.”

As with any Internet infrastructure provider, Internap requires high-power UPS technology with scalability and high energy efficiency at low loads. The Schneider Electric Symmetra MW delivers a modular, fault-tolerant UPS in the 400 to 1,600 kilowatt range, industry-leading energy savings, and scalability for rigorous and changing electrical demands. Switchgear from Schneider Electric partner Square D provides high quality electrical distribution, protection and power quality, and Schneider Electric’s BMS delivers intelligent, reliable building management for enhancing efficiency, comfort, and well-being of the facility occupants.

“Our relationship with Internap is based on trust and mutual understanding of the evolving needs of Internet infrastructure providers,” says Mike Hagan, vice president, North America Data Center Service Provider Team, Schneider Electric. “Schneider Electric is uniquely equipped to meet the emerging demands of big data, mobility and the growing number of connected endpoints through a comprehensive array of data center solutions and services.”
