Involta has announced that it will expand its data center operations with a $10.5 million facility in Boise, ID. The highly secure, colocation data center will house mission critical data and information technology (IT) infrastructure for healthcare organizations, businesses, government and educational institutions. Multiple anchor tenants have already leased space in the facility including St. Luke’s Health System and WinCo Foods.
The facility will be a stable, predictable, high-performance data center complete with environmental systems and controls, redundant back-up power, specialized fire suppression and reinforced concrete building construction. The facility will be designed to achieve LEED® certification and feature 10,000 sq ft of air conditioned data center space.
The data center will be the second Involta-owned facility in the Idaho market. The Company acquired SolutionPro in 2010 and currently operates the at-capacity facility located in Boise. Increased demand in the Idaho market for data center and managed IT infrastructure services drove the business case for Involta’s expansion in the market. The company has specifically seen an increase in the demand for managed services with the recent launch of the Involta CompliantCloud?platform of services designed for enterprises of all sizes. "The ability to cost-share the substantial costs of housing and managing mission critical systems and the option of off-site data storage for disaster preparedness planning is increasingly important to organizations," said Bruce Lehrman, Involta CEO. "Building and maintaining a separate, stand-alone data center is very costly. By leveraging colocation and managed services partners, enterprises can realize the advantages of a sophisticated data center while actually reducing expenses. The new Boise data center will allow leaders the opportunity to focus on their core businesses rather than complex infrastructure and facilities-related issues."
“St. Luke’s has invested considerable energy and time to determine whether our organization should build our own facility or establish a partnership with a trusted data center services provider. Involta has been with us through every step of that evaluation process. After completing our analysis, we determined that the best option for us was to partner with Involta,” stated St. Luke’s Chief Information Officer, Marc Chasin, MD.
Involta also recognized the local governmental and business development organizations that assisted in making the project a reality. "Without the assistance of the Idaho Technology Council (ITC), the Boise Valley Economic Partnership (BVEP), Idaho Department of Commerce and other public and private partners, it is unlikely this project would have made it out of the planning stage," said Lehrman. “We were pleased to have the opportunity to assist in Involta’s growth in the Boise market,” said Jay Larsen of ITC. “This data center represents a business multiplier, a significant economic engine for the region and is precisely the sort of development our organization has been working to promote.”
The company plans to host a ground-breaking ceremony at the site in March.
