Raritan has announced the availability of its new DCIM software with new capabilities to make it easier to monitor and manage data centers.

Delivering on its multi-pronged roadmap to advance the DCIM marketplace, Raritan today made available a number of new innovative tools and capabilities to help data center professionals gain even more information and insight on data center infrastructures and supporting resources. The new capabilities focus on the three DCIM cornerstones necessary to manage data centers efficiently: real-time monitoring and data gathering on infrastructure items and supporting resources, and their interrelations; accessing and visualizing information; and, managing configurations and changes.

Monitoring
To provide a more complete view on assets, power chains, network connections, and other data center resources, Raritan today expanded the facilities items that its DCIM solution monitors to include: UPSs, CRACs, and RPPs.

Raritan also made power chain configuration enhancements to help data center operators gain a more complete and accurate view of the data center; especially, real-time capacity along a power path from the data center’s UPS going through the PDUs, circuit breakers, rack PDUs, and down to the load of servers and switches.

Visualization

The Raritan DCIM solution — recognized for its analytics-based insight reports, charts, and images used for decision making — added new tools to visualize information, including:

New PUE gauges and chartsthat calculate and visually track a data center's real-time PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and trends over time.  PUE measures how efficiently a data center uses energy; specifically, how much energy is used by the computing equipment in contrast to facilities overhead equipment.

New floor maps that make it easier to search for items and provide real-time reports of the data center floor across multiple parameters.

Configuration and Change Management
Because the Raritan DCIM solution covers the entire lifecycle of an asset — from the point it is placed in the rack to when it is retired from service — it captures all the key information necessary to support asset, capacity and change management in a data center.  As a result, it provides enhanced capacity planning, enabling users to allocate space quickly for new servers, manage power and network connectivity and issue work orders.

Raritan added a new cabinet cloning feature to help automate equipment adds, moves, and changes.  It takes a single click to clone an item and all its smart model information – making it faster, easier, and more accurate.  The cloning feature supports customers when they want to reuse the same set of configurations and models.

Mobile
The company also introduced a new DCIM mobile app for tablets to provide IT professionals up-to-the-minute DCIM information anywhere.  The app can, for example, assist with at-the rack diagnostics or audits by providing inventory information to compare with the 'as-built'.   Information can be easily searched by item name, serial number or asset tag number; or, by using the app's barcode scanner.

All the new capabilities are available now in the Raritan DCIM solution, which is a complete solution that does not require separate module purchases.  Raritan DCIM software has a simple pay-as-you-grow pricing structure based on the number of data center cabinets.  The DCIM solution's asset-auto-discovery and self-learning engines, workflow processes, and ad hoc reporting capabilities are all designed to support easy deployment of the solution and to enable data center professionals to get answers quickly to their questions.

"Raritan is the leading DCIM provider because our solution is the easiest to deploy and use, and accurately answers the questions — ranging from power capacity to an asset's location — that data center professional need to answer on a daily basis," says James Cerwinski, director of software solutions at Raritan.

“The data we collect from Raritan DCIM has become a pillar for our data center – we don’t just use it; we depend on it," said Scott Jeppsen, Data Center Specialist, at Simplot.  "Raritan's new DCIM solution will allow us to monitor our complete data center to improve uptime and be more efficient with our resources, including our people and energy.”
