Emerson Network Power has announced the availability of two new modules for the Trellis™ platform: Trellis™ Power System Manager and Trellis™ Mobile Suite. The new modules provide a complete visualization of the power system, including utilization and dependencies, as well as secure, real-time mobile access — all via the Trellis platform. This enhanced data center infrastructure management (DCIM) functionality gives data center managers richer insights and more ways to utilize these insights to reduce the risk of downtime and improve operational efficiencies.

“Discussions with our closest customers on our advisory boards indicated they needed additional flexibility and holistic insight for power management, and that they would benefit from the ability to take Trellis anywhere, 24/7,” said Steve Hassell, president of Emerson Network Power’s Data Center Solutions business. “These new modules take the most comprehensive DCIM solution to the next level by giving the user greater insight for managing their assets on the go or on the data center floor, allowing them to reduce downtime risks, improve operational efficiency and cut costs.”

The Trellis Power System Manager introduces the unique ability to view the complete power chain from the grid to the rack via a one-line diagram. This capability, which is a first for the industry, lets users easily document the complete power system, view capacity utilization in real-time and forecast energy consumption, thereby improving business continuity and reducing operational costs. Armed with knowledge of their current capacity and the ability to predict future needs, users can plan for capacity additions more accurately. When users know exactly which racks or devices will be affected by any power system failure or by scheduled maintenance, they can identify and address potential issues before they cause an outage. Additionally, the module lets users better plan for power maintenance and perform risk assessments.

The Trellis Power System Manager also allows users to see data center power from a high-level view across the data center down to a single device view. This insight enables users to gain information to manage the power system more efficiently, resulting in reduced risk of downtime and – as typically happens when efficiency is improved – lower costs.

The Trellis Mobile Suite is an app that allows users to manage data center assets in real-time, anywhere and anytime, by transforming a mobile device into a portal to the Trellis platform. The ability to take action from a remote location reduces risks to business continuity and improves staff efficiency. Because the app is linked to the Trellis platform in real-time, users can also take it to the data center floor, where they can find, add, move and remove racks and devices faster; carry out audits easily; and configure the database without returning to a computer. The unique and innovative image recognition technology and bar-code scanning capabilities enable real-time updates right on the data center floor. Thus, users can save time tracking assets and updating their system while reducing the risk of human error that comes with entering data.

“Emerson Network Power’s Trellis platform continues to evolve by offering increased functional capabilities that follow a comprehensive roadmap,” said Michelle Bailey, vice president for Digital Infrastructure and Datacenter Initiatives at 451 Research. “Adding new mobile access, image recognition, power management and asset management capabilities positions Emerson to address the escalating needs of the DCIM marketplace, while offering a tangible solution for the future datacenter.”

The Emerson Network Power Trellis Mobile Suite app is available from the App Store at www.AppStore.com and is compatible with the iPad™.
