ViaWest has officially opened its Lone Mountain data center facility in North Las Vegas, celebrating the colocation industry’s first North American Tier IV Design Certification.

To mark the grand opening, ViaWest will host an Open House on Thursday, February 28, at the Lone Mountain data center. The celebration will include facility tours, networking, food, and drinks. To attend the event, visit the event registration site

ViaWest first announced the Lone Mountain facility in the second half of 2012, with an emphasis on the data center’s green design elements, robust security and high availability. In October 2012, the facility earned the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV design certification, which is the highest rating possible and which measures the quality and reliability designed into the Lone Mountain facility. The Uptime Institute is the leading educational and standards organization in the data center industry.

The Tier IV designation certifies that, when built to design specifications, the Lone Mountain facility is completely fault-tolerant and capable of withstanding an unplanned event such as a fire, explosion or water leak, or failure of any power or cooling equipment, without any impact to IT equipment.

Since the facility’s launch in December, numerous anchor customers have incorporated Lone Mountain into their data management plans, including those from the healthcare, marketing, technology, telecommunications and cloud-based services industries. ViaWest offers a broad portfolio of IT infrastructure services, including colocation, cloud computing, disaster recovery and managed services solutions. This depth of services is complemented by a customer-centric approach and industry-leading 100% availability Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Utah-based Progrexion, one of the largest lead generation providers in the consumer credit arena, recently expanded its colocation footprint into the Lone Mountain facility. “We have worked with ViaWest in Utah for many years and are excited to expand into the new Lone Mountain location,” states Sjon Benson, Vice President of Information Technologies at Progrexion, a ViaWest customer. “Our business has grown tremendously over the past decade, and ViaWest has been a true partner in our growth. Their team is technically excellent and has collaborated with us in our planning to ensure that we have a solid platform for growth.”

“We are excited to open such an amazing facility,” states Michael Vignato, ViaWest regional vice president and general manager, Nevada/Southern California. “Las Vegas is an excellent location, with low risk for natural disaster and an arid climate that contributes to this facility reaching an expected Power Use Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.2 — one of the lowest in the industry. Many of our customers now ask specifically to be part of Lone Mountain, wanting to take advantage of the availability and sustainability that it offers. We welcome our new customers as we continue to grow Lone Mountain’s reach.”

The Lone Mountain data center will also be Energy Star and Green Globe certified. It is a 110,000-sq-ft facility, which will offer 74,000 sq ft of raised floor space upon completion of final build out.
