The Green Grid has announced that Mark Schiller has been named executive director, effective November 2, 2012. Schiller brings over 30 years of experience in the IT industry and a decade of trade association and standards leadership experience to The Green Grid.

“I am honored and delighted to join the many efficiency-conscious companies, government agencies, educational institutions and individuals that make up The Green Grid,” said Schiller. “I look forward to building on the outstanding work The Green Grid has completed to-date, and extending the influence of the organization and its mission. As executive director it is my responsibility to engage with, and expand, the membership, alliance organizations, and end-user Advisory Council and I am eager to get started.”

In his role as executive director, Schiller will coordinate global activities and champion The Green Grid’s mission to advance energy efficiency in data centers and the broader business computing ecosystem. In prior roles, Schiller has contributed to several areas within the IT industry, including servers, storage, security, operating systems, web services and telecommunications. He has co-founded and served in various executive and corporate-representation leadership roles for several IT trade association and standards efforts, including the Trusted Computing Group. Additionally, he brings significant experience in private-public sector collaboration in standards and IT policy, both in the U.S. and internationally.

“The Board of Directors is thrilled that Mark will be joining The Green Grid to help build on our mission and the transformative work we have achieved over the past five years,” said John Tuccillo, President and Chairman of The Green Grid. “Mark is an outstanding leader in the IT industry with experience in both the public and private sector, and has a unique and relevant history working with industry trade groups like The Green Grid. He is perfectly suited to lead our organization into its next phase of growth and we’re very glad to have him on board.”

Schiller will succeed Mark Monroe who served as executive director from January 2011 through August 2012, helping guide The Green Grid as it expanded its focus and deliverables to address growing industry trends towards the sustainability and resource efficiency of IT.

“The Green Grid’s Board of Directors wishes to thank Mark Monroe for his guidance, commitment and dedication to the organization’s growth during his tenure,” said Tuccillo.
