A transformer-free, on-line UPS with best-in-class efficiency, the Liebert APM enables capacity on demand with the addition of internal FlexPower core assemblies. The assemblies allow the system to expand for capacity or redundancy in 15-kilowatt (kW) increments up to 45 or 90-kW within a single cabinet.
The FlexPower cores incorporate distributed intelligence and scalable power in a common assembly and allow configuration of a completely redundant power and control system, sized to match the capacity of the protected equipment. When power requirements change, data center managers can easily add capacity without increasing the system footprint. This approach allows for right-sizing of the UPS, resulting in improved energy efficiency and reduced power expenditures.

As part of its larger electrical equipment efficiency improvement program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) instituted its Energy Star for UPS program earlier this year for products rated greater than or equal to 1500 watts. To qualify for the Energy Star certification, the Liebert APM was subjected to testing by a UPS-specific certification body recognized by the EPA. This certification process examines products based on average power, efficiency and efficiency variation for determination of steady-state. UPS products meeting the EPA’s requirements use an average of 35 percent less energy than their standard counterparts
Over the next several months, Emerson Network Power will submit other Liebert UPS technologies for ENERGY STAR certification.
