CBS News Channel 5 in Cheyenne, WI, is reporting that a project that Cheyenne has been waiting on for the past three and a half years had its official ground breaking Tuesday.

Construction on the $100 million NCAR Supercomputer Center began as Governor Freudenthal and representatives from the University of Wyoming and NCAR were on hand to dig the ceremonial first scoops of dirt.

The center will host up to 100,000 consumer grade computers networked together with fiber optics to form one giant super computer that will serve customers around the world.

"What it really does is it makes people sit up and take notice that you don't have to do business in Colorado or somewhere else," said Governor Freudenthal.

The Supercomputer will opens its doors in the North Range Business Park in Cheyenne in 2012.
