TVA Names Data Center Site in Nashville
The Starwood Commons site, located at Murfreesboro Road and Hobson Pike/Old Hickory Boulevard in southeastern Davidson County, has been certified as a top location for building and operating a data center facility.
Data centers house computer systems and components, such as telecommunications and storage systems, used by Internet search engines and other high-tech industries. Criteria for selection of the sites include accessibility, strong telecommunications infrastructure and availability of reliable electric power.
"Recognizing these potential sites is an important part of TVA's economic development strategy to recruit data centers to our region," said John Bradley, senior vice president for TVA Economic Development. "The data center industry is growing rapidly and provides good-paying job opportunities for highly skilled employees."
TVA commissioned Deloitte Consulting to conduct the data center study. The firm also has named 13 other development sites in Athens, Bristol, Fayetteville, Jackson, Lenoir City, Maryville, Murfreesboro, and Tullahoma, TN; Guntersville and Hartselle, AL.; Grenada and Olive Branch, MS., and Duffield, VA.
The Starwood site was reviewed last year but was not initially chosen as a prime location. The city of Nashville continued to make improvements at the site and resubmitted the application. The location was designated a primary site after re-evaluation by Deloitte.
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce spearheaded the submission of the Starwood Commons site for the data center identification initiative.
"The Nashville development community has taken the required steps to improve this site, and those extra efforts are paying off," said Ralph Schulz, president and CEO, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. "This site recognition by TVA and Deloitte tells the data center industry that we are ready for business."
