Internap Network Services Corporation, a provider of end-to-end Internet business products and services, announced the opening of a 7,500-sq-ft expansion of its Seattle-area colocation facility located at 3355 S. 120th Place in Tukwila, Washington in the Sabey Intergate campus. Internap executives will celebrate the opening of the expanded space with an open house event at the data center on August 26 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. PDT.

The expansion of Internap’s colocation facility builds on the company’s strong history in Seattle, which began in 1996. This facility is Internap’s third data center in the market, and it is also the third expansion in this location since its initial opening. The addition of net sellable space reflects the growing demand by enterprise customers across a range of industries - including e-commerce, financial services and online retailers - to shift the storage, maintenance and support of IT infrastructure to outsourced colocation facilities.

To achieve power and cooling efficiencies and reduce environmental impact, the Seattle-area colocation facility incorporates green data center best practices. These include roof-top cooling units, which eliminate an extra source of internal heat, high-efficiency lighting and “drop ceilings” to rapidly remove hot air. Internap also implemented ultrasonic humidification technology, which promotes ideal humidity levels, conserves energy and requires little to no maintenance.

As with the rest of Internap’s company-controlled data centers, the expansion offers a highly-secure, scalable facility staffed with Internap personnel and 24/7 technical support, as well as the implementation of SAS 70 Type II controls and processes. The facility also provides enhanced IP connectivity via Internap’s Performance IP network, which uses patented Managed Internet Route Optimizer™ (MIRO) technology to analyze network performance characteristics – such as available bandwidth, delays and packet loss – and deliver traffic over the fastest, most reliable route.

“Organizations are increasingly choosing colocation solutions that offer more than just proximity to company headquarters or standard facility needs. They are seeking the addition of value-added services that elevate the performance of their IT infrastructure and ultimately their business,” said Mike Higgins, senior vice president of data center services at Internap. “The expansion of the Seattle-area facility allows more customers in the region and beyond to leverage our unique, services-driven value proposition, which combines high-performance IP connectivity, industry-leading SLAs and hands-on customer support.”

In addition to the Seattle-area facility expansion, Internap’s data center located at Fisher Plaza on 140 4th Avenue North in Seattle now incorporates similar industry-leading capabilities and services as a result of recent upgrades. These include upgrades to the cooling towers, adding 600 tons of capacity, and additional UPS (uninterruptible power supply) capacity to enable 3kW of power draw per cabinet.
