SunGard Availability Services has expanded its New York Metro area data center campus to meet growing customer demand for colocation and managed services. The expansion will help customers meet IT infrastructure needs without incurring the capital and operating expenses of building and running their own data centers.

The SunGard data center enhancements address the needs of New York Metro area companies, including financial services and healthcare firms that require optimal security, redundancy, and cost-effective expansion capabilities as their IT requirements grow. Located in Carlstadt, NJ, the expanded data center will enable new and existing customers to maintain their long-term IT growth strategies and provide them the infrastructure and availability capabilities to support virtualization initiatives.

“The expansion of our Carlstadt data center campus reflects SunGard’s continuous investment in people, technology and infrastructure to meet the demanding customer requirements of the New York Metro area,” said Patrick Doherty, chief marketing officer at SunGard Availability Services. “With 660,000 sq ft of available data center space and more than 2,000 workforce continuity seats on the Carlstadt campus, SunGard’s solutions help customers ensure the uptime of critical infrastructure.”

SunGard’s colocation and managed services allow customers to run business systems and applications at a SunGard facility rather than at their own data centers. SunGard solutions include hosting services, application services, e-mail, and collaboration services, network services, managed security services, storage services, and replication services. These solutions are suited to organizations that require a secure, highly available, and redundant IT environment.

The expanded SunGard Carlstadt data center has added 12,000 sq ft of raised floor for colocation and managed services with the capacity to add another 30,000 sq ft as needed. The facility upgrade also includes adding six megawatts of utility power, 2 N utility power redundancy (accessing power from separate utility substations) and new UPS power systems.

In addition to colocation and managed services, the expanded Carlstadt data center supports SunGard recovery and hotsite services. The facility includes workforce continuity seats which are fully equipped with the technology, office resources, infrastructure, and amenities that organizations need to provide staffers with an alternative workspace following an outage.
