Skanska Partners With Romonet To Create Data Center Efficiencies

Skanska USA has formed a partnership with Romonet Inc. to employ the company’s innovative analytic tools for the design, construction, and operation of data centers in the most cost efficient manner possible.

A leader in mission critical facilities and data center construction, Skanska has built complex technical facilities for clients in the financial, pharmaceutical, broadcast, telecommunications, retail and entertainment industries throughout the U.S. Established in 2006 to help businesses run more efficient and cost-effective data centers, Romonet’s suite of predictive modeling software helps owners reduce costs and lower the risks associated with building new data centers or expanding existing facilities.

“The Romonet products are a perfect fit for our current model of services, which emphasizes integrated solutions and focuses on the total cost of ownership of a data center facility, explained Jakob Carnemark, Senior Vice President for Skanska Mission Critical. “Prognose will enable us to create more energy efficient designs for our clients while accurately evaluating potential ROIs and CO2 footprints for different facility scenarios.”

Zahl Limbuwala, CEO at Romonet stated: “The Prognose software suite is a ground-breaking category of predictive modeling tools that help to design, build and manage more efficient data centers and cloud computing services. It enables data center operators to accurately predict future performance, providing energy and cost-based decision making data that take the risk out of business decisions.”

The Prognose system performs predictive modeling for electrical and mechanical systems, enabling the user to see how differences in design will affect the final operation of a facility. It uses specification data to verify power usages, cooling capacities, and efficiencies and can be linked to ASHRAE weather data to provide pros and cons for each design by differentiating the energy draws and cooling usage each will require.

“Through the use of real-time data we can also validate to a percentage how close the manufacturers’ specification data is to the real world and how different equipment will interact within the holistic system,” Carnemark noted. “These capabilities will greatly enhance our ability to bring significant added value to every data center project we undertake.”
