Power Assure Announces New Solution that Interoperates with Cisco Unified Computing System

Power Assure, Inc. has announced that its Dynamic Power Management and Dynamic Power Optimization software interoperates with Cisco’s Unified Computing System (UCS) Blade servers. Power Assure delivers real-time power monitoring and dynamic power saving policy management software for UCS servers, and leverages existing integration with Intel Data Center Manager (Intel DCM) software. Power Assure is demonstrating this interoperable solution in booth IP16 at this week’s Intel Developer Forumheld at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, China.

“Power Assure interoperates with Cisco UCS for power and thermal monitoring, management and control,” said Brad Wurtz, president and CEO, Power Assure. “Our mutual customers benefit from increased control over their power utilization and performance parameters, thus dramatically decreasing power consumption while guaranteeing application performance to meet customer SLAs.”

The Cisco UCS Blade Servers are designed to increase performance, energy efficiency, and flexibility for demanding virtualized and non-virtualized applications. Based on Intel Xeon Series 5600 and 7500 processors, Cisco UCS interoperates with Power Assure seamlessly by utilizing the direct XML interface on the UCS B-Series and Intel Data Center Manager Interface (DCMI) for the UCS C-Series. Cisco UCS Blade Servers adapt processor performance to application demands or business continuity needs and intelligently control energy use based on quality of service needs. Power Assure DPM and DPO further add insight and control into the Cisco UCS infrastructure policies to dynamically provision server and application services.

“By taking advantage of the Cisco UCS APIs, Power Assure is able to interoperate with the Cisco UCS to expand the value of UCS with new added capabilities,” said David Lawler, Cisco vice president, Server Access and Virtualization Technology Group.

Intel Data Center Manager is a software development kit that enables software companies to add power and thermal monitoring and management capability for servers, racks and groups of servers in data centers. Power Assure has integrated Intel DCM into its application to provide new high value power management and power optimization features to IT organizations.

Power Assure software provides actionable, real-time and historical insight into power utilization and other key performance indicators (KPIs) for the data center, along with the means to optimize energy efficiency while maintaining service levels. Power Assure enables data centers to gain real-time infrastructure insight and intelligence, maximize use of available space and power; extend the useful life of the data center; cut on-going power consumption by an average of 50%; and shift load within and across sites.

Power Assure will demonstrate this interoperable solution again May 8 - 12 in booth 1127 at Interop Las Vegas held in at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV.
