GE's Grid IQ Solutions Help Reduce the Risk of Unexpected Transformer Failures and Unplanned Power Outages by Up to 80 Percent

GE has launched its Grid IQ Transformer Analytics Service as part of its Grid IQ solutions portfolio. Grid IQ is GE's company-wide commitment to solving customers’ toughest challenges in innovative ways with more efficient, reliable and sustainable energy solutions. The Grid IQ Transformer Analytics Service uncovers potential problems and helps proactively reduce unplanned outages by identifying transformer failure conditions before conventional alarms are raised. The utilities using this service will benefit from minimized regulatory penalties, revenue loss and product waste associated with unexpected failures.

“We can reduce the risk of unexpected failure and unplanned outages by up to 80 percent when compared to unmonitored transformers,” said Luke Clemente, general manager metering and sensing systems-digital energy for GE Energy Services. “In these unprecedented times of future power uncertainty, we are excited that GE’s Grid IQ solutions can provide our customers with the confidence of supply continuity; safe in the knowledge that assets are unlikely to fail without warning.”

Monitoring and diagnostics combines advanced sensors and powerful analytical software with the wide experience of GE Energy engineers to enable knowledge-based decisions on transformer maintenance, repair and replacement. GE’s focus on prevention enables true condition-based maintenance that helps eliminate wasted time and money associated with performing routine inspection on healthy transformers that are in no need of service.
