DataCenter.BZ Chooses Power and Cooling Technologies from Emerson Network Power to Support Data Center

Emerson Network Power has announced that DataCenter.BZ, a Columbus-based provider of premium data center solutions and metro-area dark fiber services, has selected Liebert power and cooling solutions from Emerson Network Power to support and optimize its high-availability, ultra high-density data center.

The recently-expanded facility-expected to become the largest high-availability SAS70 Type II carrier-neutral data center in Ohio with more than 30,000 sq ft of raised floor-provides premium data center and telecom solutions to a variety of regional, national and international customers, including major telecommunications network carriers, government entities, health care systems, and numerous Fortune 1000 companies. The facility and its infrastructure are optimized to deliver a variety of enterprise-grade data center solutions, including cloud computing, high-density co-location, managed hosting, hosted storage, and related disaster recovery solutions.

“With our newly expanded data center facility, we are better positioned than ever before to deliver high-availability data center and cloud computing services previously unseen in the Central Ohio marketplace at an extremely competitive price point,” said Gordon Scherer, president of DataCenter.BZ. “As the leading provider of power and cooling solutions for this facility, Emerson Network Power has been a valuable partner whose innovative technologies have enabled us to achieve the highest levels of availability, efficiency and flexibility-particularly for our private, public, and hybrid cloud computing service offerings-and pass those benefits along to our growing global customer-base.”

The facility’s ultra-high power and cooling densities-made possible by solutions from Emerson Network Power’s Liebert AC Power and Liebert Precision Cooling businesses-enable the company to provide its customers with more than 500 watts per square foot of power across a 30,000-sq-ft raised floor, and ultra-high-density cabinet power deployments-some up to 90 kW (50 kW in standard racks).

To fortify the facility’s power infrastructure, DataCenter.BZ deployed Liebert NX UPS solutions from Emerson Network Power. Leveraging their high configurability, the company parallels six 200 kVA Liebert NX modules with a 1.2 megawatt paralleling switchboard in each of the facility’s six newly commissioned Liebert NX UPS systems--establishing more than seven megawatts of additional UPS backup. This unique configuration-the only Liebert NX deployment of this size in North America-provides true 2(N+1) UPS redundancy with the scalability required to meet the unique needs of its high-density data center space. Liebert SiteScan centralized monitoring software from Emerson Network Power also allows DataCenter.BZ and its customers to monitor the operational infrastructure down to the rack level in real-time, enabling data center staff to quickly identify and remedy any potential power or cooling issues throughout the data center space before they result in any component downtime.

In addition to meeting stringent availability requirements, DataCenter.BZ’s management team also has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a high- efficiency operating environment. This commitment is reinforced by the company’s investment in the latest Liebert cooling technologies from Emerson Network Power that enable ultra-dense power configurations without impacting efficiency or scalability. By deploying high-efficiency Liebert CW precision cooling units with cold water loops and geothermal heat pumps, the company was able to establish a redundant, 2,400-ton high-density cooling infrastructure with cooling systems accounting for just five percent of the facility’s total power draw.
