Phoenix NAP, a next generation datacenter and network access point, announced today 10 network carriers are currently offering services out of the facility, underscoring the datacenter’s carrier neutral, public peering exchange philosophy.   

  “The high density colocation solutions we offer are great for meeting clients’ space and power needs, but to truly be a next generation datacenter and network access point, the connectivity has to be there.  We are excited to already have a number of carriers offering their services out of our facility, giving clients options when it comes to which ones they want to utilize,” said Ian McClarty, president of Phoenix NAP. 

  Currently, Level 3 Communications, Global Crossing, Cogent Communications, Internap, Cox Business, tw telecom, AGL Networks, AboveNet, Cavecreek Wholesale Internet Exchange, and TruCom are offering transit or transport services out of Phoenix NAP, with additional carrier providers continuing to be brought in. 

  “For recently opening our doors, we feel we have a solid mix of carriers clients can choose from. However, we remain strongly committed to working with additional network providers and bringing them into our facility,” said McClarty.

  One of the ways Phoenix NAP encourages network diversity is through its public peering exchange, which operates on a not-for-profit basis. Carriers are not subjected to monthly recurring cross-connect fees, which enables them to exchange traffic with one another in a non-fee intensive environment and limit the need to backhaul traffic to another location. This ultimately promotes more connectivity options for datacenter clients.

  “Early on, we decided the best way to serve our clients and the market was to not run our carrier meet-me room as a profit center. By operating in this manner, we’re able to forge agreements with network providers and establish a carrier neutral network access point that clients can leverage for their connectivity,” said McClarty.  

  Phoenix NAP is also a PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) validated services provider and a SAS 70 Type I certified facility. Type II certification is expected to follow after six months of operation.
