With more of the datacenter market utilizing cloud computing services, enterprises are turning towards more modular and turnkey physical infrastructure solutions to increase efficiencies, lower power usage effectiveness (PUE) and reduce the complexity involved in deployment. The next generation of datacenter power infrastructure needs to be just as smart and innovative as the IT environment it supports.

Active Power continues to enable leading edge datacenter infrastructure design with a multimillion order from one of its strategic IT partners for four PowerHouse systems. These modular fully contained utility infrastructure systems will provide continuous critical power for the partner’s containerized datacenters, part of a larger modular datacenter project. The IT containers and PowerHouse systems will be deployed to support two of the partner’s datacenter sites located in the southeastern United States.

The order is made up of four PowerHouse systems each rated at 960 kW. Each system will contain a 1500 kW diesel generator; Active Power’s high efficiency CleanSource 1200 kVA UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems; generator starting module; switchgear; and monitoring and controls software. The first PowerHouse systems will ship in second quarter with installation taking place in early third quarter. The remaining equipment will ship in third quarter and be installed soon thereafter.
