Emerson Network Power Introduces Dynamic Cooling Assessment

Emerson Network Power announced the availability of its Dynamic Cooling Assessment for data centers in the United States. The service employs sensors and wireless communications to track environmental temperature and humidity in order to effectively apply industry-leading engineering expertise to the management of the data center environment.

The assessment service is a cost-effective, long-term approach to gaining the benefits of a data center cooling and efficiency assessment. Managing the ideal environment in a data center is a never-ending challenge,” said Brian Humes, vice president and general manager, Emerson Network Power’s Liebert Services business. “IT loads change and grow as equipment is replaced or upgraded; airflow and cooling effectiveness are altered when infrastructure ages, moves or gets enhanced with new technologies.

The Dynamic Cooling Assessment provides real-time engineering analysis of the cooling infrastructure.”Continuous, real-time performance tracking enables trends and problems with temperature and airflow to be identified before they jeopardize IT load availability. When issues are identified, solutions are recommended to prevent environmental problems such as hot spots, over-cooling and cooling system inefficiency. The Emerson Network Power Dynamic Cooling Assessment includes installation of wireless transmitters, Liebert Sensor Network and Ntegrity Gateway without disruption to data center operations. Quarterly reports can be generated to provide trending analysis, identification and prioritization of potential problems affecting availability or efficiency, and detailed recommendations for corrective action. An annual Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model is also generated allowing end-users to plan and optimize future data center changes.
