SunGard Availability Services Expands Philadelphia Data Center

SunGard Availability Services has announced the expansion of its Philadelphia data center at 1500 Spring Garden Street to accommodate growing demand for SunGard’s portfolio of cloud computing, collocation, and managed IT services. The Spring Garden Data Center expansion incorporates sustainable environmental controls to advance green IT initiatives.

SunGard will unveil the expanded data center with an Open House on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The free event will include discussions on how organizations can leverage SunGard to address technology needs, from basic, secure infrastructure components to full management of production and recovery functions.

The data center hosts SunGard’s Enterprise Cloud Services as well as SunGard’s Recover2Cloud, a suite of managed recovery services backed by guaranteed service levels. Along with tours of the expanded facility, the Spring Garden Open House will include informational sessions from SunGard experts on SunGard’s cloud offerings.

“The Spring Garden expansion demonstrates our continuing commitment to expanding our infrastructure and delivering the uptime and resiliency customers need for mission-critical applications,” said Larry Coble, senior vice president and general manager, recovery services, SunGard Availability Services. “It is purpose-built for production and recovery services that help ensure availability of applications on secure, compliant platforms.”

SunGard’s Spring Garden facility is one of three Philadelphia-based SunGard data centers and features colocation services which provide space, power and network capabilities. Colocation allows organizations to retain ownership and management of dedicated equipment in a secure multi-tenant facility, helping them achieve lower costs and higher quality. The SunGard facility can also serve as a primary production location, or as a secondary data center for backup and recovery or testing and development.

The SunGard Spring Garden expansion added over 12,000 square feet of additional raised floor for colocation and managed services, and a number of green IT capabilities including:

 • 2 x 500 ton eco chillers for free cooling in the winter months

• Hot aisle containment via a chimney cabinet solution

• Central humidification system for improved efficiency over traditional HVAC humidification

• Zone motion sensors for lighting

• Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) tracking built into the automation system

• Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) reduction for generators

SunGard provides 24/7 support to customers with on-site staffing and organized around a service-centric operating model based on ITIL v3 and ITSM structure. SunGard has demonstrated operational excellence through SAS 70 Type II compliance, ISO9001: 2000 certification, and PCI DSS-compliant facilities and processes.
