Environmental Performance Criteria Guide for New Data Centers

Lawrence Berkeley National Labs
www.lbl.gov

DRAFT based on LEED NC 2.2
KlingLindquist shared this draft guideline with Mission Critical in order to bring more attention to an important initiative facing data centers. The CEC commissioned LBNL to customize a data center specific Environmental Performance Criteria because data centers present both a challenge and an opportunity in the development and implementation of sustainable design, construction and operation practices. Issues such as mission critical 24/7 operations and energy and water use intensity in data centers are not addressed adequately in the current USGBC, LEED NC 2.2 Guideline to adequately meet the data center sector¦s requirements for quantifiable sustainable and energy efficient design. The project goal is to build flexibility into this Guide to allow users to consider the whole building life cycle, regional climatic issues, partial and full-load design and specific innovation and design concepts applicable to data centers.

Gilbane Company Event

Gilbane Company Event

The Gilbane Company hosted a wonderful event Monday at Bobby Vans, a wonderful restaurant just blocks from the Occupy Wall Street protests. Nor surprisingly, Gilbane put together a wonderful program that included presentations from Kfir Godrich of HP, Peter Miscovich of Jones Lang LaSalle, and ABB. All the parties had gathered to celebrate Steel ORCA, a new 300,000 sq ft data center in New Jersey that will run on 100 percent solar energy. Dave Crocker, the CEO of Steel Orca, Dennis Cronin, and other company execs were also on hand to tell the story.
