Featured Technologies Eaton Corporation announced that its
ePDUs have been tested and approved to support IBM
Systems Director Active Energy Manager V4.1. These enclosure-based
power distribution units allow users to effectively measure power usage
and temperature within the data center at the system, chassis or rack
level. The latest Active Energy Manager release, version 4.1, offers
power-trending support for older systems, low- and mid-range storage
devices and non-IBM systems through the use of Eaton ePDUs. As
part of IBM's Cool Blue portfolio within Project Big Green, Active
Energy Manager is an IBM Systems Director V6.1 plug-in that provides
customers with a view of actual power consumed within data centers,
using autonomic capabilities to track energy consumption across
multiple platforms. IBM Systems Director Active Energy Manager V4.1
is compatible with a wide variety of Eaton ePDUs, including Monitored
ePDUs, Switched ePDUs and Eaton remote power panel (RPP) models with a
Power Xpert Gateway Series 1000 card.

GE Digital Energy announced the GT Series 5-10kVA UL Listed, single-phase double-conver
sion uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system which combines high power capacity and internal batteries in a compact size, making it an ideal solution in applications where computer/IT power requirements are demanding, but space is limited. Designed for use in either rack or tower configurations, the unit is well suited for installations such as network IT closets or small computer server rooms. GE's GT Series 5-10 kVA UPS is flexible and adapts to IT site needs while delivering high reliability, uptime, and low life cycle cost. Output voltages of 240/120, 208/120, 230/115, 220/110, or 200/100 VAC provide the flexibility to adapt to multiple load requirements without the need for
additional transformers that take up extra space and add weight. The unit is parallel up to three 8 and 10 kVA modules, for a maximum of 30 kVA.

Featured White Papers
Tackling Today's Data Center Energy Efficiency Challenges - A Software-Oriented Approach
Schneider Electric's Hugh Lindsay along with James Parker and Bill Brown of Square D Engineering Services
in conjunction with the Square D Critical Power Competency Center developed a white paper describing how to manage increased load densities caused by advances in server equipment technologies and increased demand for computing power. This paper outlines a software-based approach to the data gathering, trending, and analysis that are necessary to apply successful energy efficiency measures in data
center environments.

Improving Security Using a Physical Switch
Market Central, Inc.
's new white paper examines largely overlooked hardware security appliances. Hardware is inherently secure and its lower level of complexity (as compared to software solutions) makes hardware much more dependable. High performance hardware solutions support the next generation of higher speed networks with true plug'n'play installation. There is no software to be hacked, patched or regularly upgraded.
