Let the Discussions Begin

Everyone who viewed the Open Forum on Data Center Issues webinar last Thursday had the chance to respond to seven survey questions, and to see the answers. Gilbane's Dennis Cronin and I presented these findings to the 7x24Exchange at the their fall meeting earlier this week. Look at this one slide, which shows that only a very few respondents expect their spending on data centers to slow. You can see the rest of the survey results by logging in and viewing the webinar, which is available on our website.

Eaton Corporation announced its Eaton Enterprise Power Manager (EPM) software ( free download) and a full line of power cables. These power distribution solutions allow data center managers to more effectively measure and manage power at the rack and server levels. The EPM software allows data center managers to monitor and manage a virtually unlimited number of enclosure power distribution units (ePDUs) and mid-range uninterruptible power systems (UPS) with a cohesive, enterprise-wide view. Instead of viewing the status of each ePDU or UPS individually, the EPM's single interface, reporting capabilities and notification settings aggregates all the power management information allowing data center managers more time to proactively analyze and plan. The graphical view and reporting features of the EPM software allow data center managers advanced customization capabilities. Eaton's new line of cables offers a cohesive and reliable power distribution solution within three distinct product categories-adapters, jumpers and splitters. Adapters enable equipment with disparate input/output receptacles to work together. Jumpers connect two pieces of equipment without cluttering up the cable arrangement; and splitters add extra equipment to a UPS or power distribution unit (PDU) without using additional outlets.

HP introduced the HP 10K G2 Air Duct for racks for data center managers who are looking to eliminate existing hot spots and optimize air cooling. The 10K G2 Rack Air Duct channels the hot exhaust air from the rear of the rack directly into the top plenum (air return) to eliminate hot spots and air mixing in the data center. It increases cooling efficiency by returning hotter air to the computer room air handler (CRAH) units. This rack cooling solution suits racks using 5-14 kW power. The air duct is conveniently adjustable in height for different top ceiling plenum heights and has no fans or moving parts for better reliability and silent operation. It efficiently uses pressure from the computer room air conditioning (CRAC) unit to extract air from the rack. The unit can be retrofitted to existing problem racks and can work with single or multiple racks.

SHH

The Reznor Model SHH is the first commercial air handling unit that features up to 92% fuel efficiency. Compare this to conventional units which could consume up to 15% more fuel for the same amount of heat.
Reznor Model SHH, featuring the TCORE3™ heat exchanger, is the latest generation in a series of 90% plus efficient heaters first introduced 20 years ago.
